The Catholic priest, who died Friday, had a knack for giving homilies that hit home with his parishioners.

“ His were short, to the point and you remembered it when you got home,” said Moyra O’Pallie, a long-time member of Precious Blood Cathedral. “It was just a gift that he had.”

The Sault Ste. Marie native also had a good rapport when he visited with O’Pallie’s students when she taught at schools including Sacred Heart.

“ They enjoyed him,” said the former acting president of Precious Blood’s Catholic Women’s League.

Bishop Thomas Dowd, of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie, announced Currie’s death with “great sadness” on his Facebook page. Currie’s age was not released.
