When Ronald Reagan was selling GE products. When Harry Truman was set to lose big time. When there was no Covid. When you were sure “The Tonight Show” was a given.
In 1960 when the U.S. life expectancy for men was 66.6 years, did you, did your father, did anyone, correctly anticipate where the world was headed?
Some things turned out better than expected. Others, not so good.
Point being, you never know.
At the moment, I’m feeling stymied. No matter where I turn, someone seems prepared to shout, “Gotcha!”
Context is up for grabs. The rules are being altered daily.
My belief that a particular combination of concepts, ideas and ideals formed a way of life that felt inevitable, turned out to be a misreading. I was on the wrong page.
