In a video that has gone viral and circulated on outlets including Fox News, Dearborn’s Muslim mayor, Abdullah Hammoud, called a Christian resident an “Islamophobe” and said he was not welcome in the city.

The comments came during a city council meeting on Sept. 9, after resident Ted Barham objected to naming a street in Dearborn after Osama Siblani, publisher of the Arab American News. Barham claimed that Siblani has supported U.S.-designated terrorist organizations Hamas and Hezbollah, and has made provocative statements promoting violence in the conflict with Israel—allegations that, he argued, should disqualify him from being honored with a street naming.
