Continuing in that divisive, virtue-signalling tradition of the Trudeau Government, the Carney-appointed Attorney-General (who, appropriately enough, was Justin’s disastrous immigration minister) has asked the Supreme Court of Canada to change the Constitution of Canada to limit the use of the notwithstanding clause.
If the court decides to agree (and why wouldn’t it? It would mean that courts will be even more powerful), then Canada will continue its journey from a democracy governed by representatives elected by the people, to an autocracy ruled by appointed judges.
It is not for this column to outline the details of the why’s and wherefores of this attempt to have the judiciary change the Constitution created by elected representatives (if you really wish to wade into that quagmire, c
