Hurricane forecasters started tracking a new tropical wave east of the Caribbean Sea Sunday afternoon that they expect to bring gusty winds and showers to the Leeward Islands this week.
The system was located about 500 miles east of the Windward Islands while moving west at about 20 mph as of 1 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. It's too soon to tell exactly where the system might go, but forecasters said they expect it to take a turn to the northwest later this week, following in the footsteps of many of this year's tropical disturbances and storms.
The system does not pose an immediate threat to Louisiana.
