The Calgary Flames are set to kick off their preseason with a split-squad matchup against the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday. Although these games are primarily for preparation, the Flames are aiming for victories in both contests.

As is customary for these double-header events, the majority of the Flames' top players and prospects will be playing at the Saddledome. Notable players on the home roster include first-line forwards Nazem Kadri and Matt Coronato, team captain Mikael Backlund, and defensemen Rasmus Andersson and MacKenzie Weegar. Recent first-round draft picks Matvei Gridin, Sam Honzek, and Zayne Parekh will also be in action.

The squad heading to Edmonton features a competitive forward line consisting of Martin Pospisil, Adam Klapka, and Ryan Lomberg, along with defenseman Kevin Bahl. The only regulars not participating in the games are starting goaltender Dustin Wolf and wingers Jonathan Huberdeau and Yegor Sharangovich. Huberdeau missed Friday's practice for maintenance, suggesting he may be dealing with a minor injury, and was seen as an extra during the morning skate.

The Oilers will rest several key players, including star centers Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, defenseman Evan Bouchard, and goaltender Stuart Skinner. The roster traveling to Calgary includes former Flames Curtis Lazar and Brett Kulak, but lacks many players expected to be part of Edmonton's opening-night lineup.

The games are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. MT in both cities.
