The Mets have spent the vast majority of the 2025 season in one of the six playoff spots in the National League, but thanks to their 3-2 loss to the Nationals this afternoon and a win by the Reds, that is no longer the case. Sean Manaea wasn’t great as he played the role of starter in the Mets’ second piggyback game. He gave up three runs in three innings, albeit with some shoddy defense behind him. And that proved to be too much for the Mets’ lineup in a must-win game that felt a little off pretty much throughout.
