MOORHEAD — Determination and perseverance were common themes among Ukrainian refugees and community supporters Sunday, Sept. 21, at a fundraiser in Gooseberry Mound Park.
The fundraiser was organized by FM Volunteers for Ukraine, an organization offering support and guidance to the estimated 200-plus refugees who have moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area to escape the humanitarian crisis stemming from Ukraine’s ongoing war with Russia.
These refugees have been allowed to settle in the United States under Temporary Protected Status since 2023, allowing them to live and work legally. But those protections expire after two years, and refugees face an uncertain future as they wait on possible extensions for that status, apply for new work visas or weigh more drastic options, such as leaving the
