State Police and public safety officials this week announced plans for a new state crime lab in Marlborough that they say will keep Massachusetts at the leading edge of the behind-the-scenes police work that is increasingly key to major investigations.
Construction on the 200,000-square-foot facility, which is to be developed by Greatland Realty Partners and leased by the state, is expected to get underway early next year.
The lab is expected to open for more than 250 employees in early 2028, the Healey administration said. The Marlborough site will consolidate existing facilities in Maynard and Sudbury under one roof.
