SAN FRANCISCO – Hundreds of lowriders from across the nation lined Mission Street in San Francisco on Saturday for the SF Lowrider Parade. The display of artistic, vintage gleaming chrome reflecting Hispanic culture and generations of stories was televised live on CBS for the first time as part of National Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month. The parade was followed by a “King of the Streets” hopping competition, live music and performances, and local Lowrider-themed food and drinks.
According to the press release, this landmark “Cruise with a Purpose”, honoring resilience, roots, and Latino cultural pride was put on by the San Francisco Lowrider Council in partnership with the City of San Francisco, the Mission Merchants Association and the Calle 24 Latino Cultural District.
