LOUISIANA, (KLFY) -- The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is seeking public assistance in tracking a species that has not been confirmed in Louisiana for over 30 years.
LDWF asks residents to report any sightings of the Eastern Spotted Skunk, which can be identified by its distinctive markings and is described to be about the size of a large, gray squirrel.
LDWF says reports can include roadkill, game camera footage or inadvertent fur trap catches.
The eastern spotted skunk is characterized by an upside-down triangle on its forehead, narrow white stripes beneath the eyes, diagonal stripes across the hips and spots on the rear. It also has a bushy tail with white underneath and at the tip.
