MONTICELLO, Ill. (WCIA) -- A Central Illinois city is citing safety issues as the reason for a speed limit decrease.
The speed limit on Bridge Street in Monticello used to be 45 miles per hour -- now, it's 35 mph. City officials said that the decision stems from ongoing concerns.
The updated speed limit only impacts a part of Bridge Street; it goes from Front Street to the eastbound exit of Interstate 72. Areas of concern included the intersections at Fisler Road and County Farm Road on Bridge Street.
The city said that the visibility issues there make it hard for people to turn when cars are driving fast. The Foothill Road and Bridge Street intersection was another concern.
People who live close to Bridge Street felt like this change was warranted.
"If you live on that part of Bridge
