FISH LAKE, Ind. — A homeowner in northern Indiana is recovering after he was shot by a burglar Sunday morning.

According to a release from the La Porte County Sheriff's Office , around 8:09 a.m. on Sept. 21, deputies were called to the 200 block of Lakeview Drive in the town of Fish Lake on a report of a shooting and a burglary in-progress.

When officers arrived, they said a 66-year-old man was suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body.

During the investigation, police learned that the homeowner had returned home and opened his garage door. That's when, police say, he saw an unknown male carrying to rifles inside his garage. That suspect then immediately fled, according to police.
