STOCKTON, Mo. -- Although the small city park in Stockton was filled with people eager to honor the life of Charlie Kirk for a candlelight vigil this evening, a shooting threat and a sudden thunderstorm shut down the event early.
With noticeable law enforcement presence in attendance, the national anthem had been recited and an opening acoustic musical performance kicked off the event at 7 p.m. Sunday evening, Sept. 21.
Shortly after the event began, however, heavy rain and winds prompted the memorial's attendees to find cover and wait for it to pass.
Stockton Mayor Brandon Cahill later announced the event had been canceled in its entirety for the night because of a shooting threat.
