STAMFORD, CT (WFSB) - A person was arrested after allegedly kidnapping two children in Newington and barricading them in a car in Stamford.

Police said the suspect was barricaded for about eight hours at North State Street and Canal Street in Stamford.

According to police, the suspect was wanted for a kidnapping investigation in Newington.

The suspect’s car led police on a chase and caused multiple crashes, said police.

During the chase, the car entered onto I-95 southbound and exited off exit 7 where it reportedly hit another car and became disabled.

Emergency crews, including a hostage negotiation team, responded and managed the incident for hours.

Authorities said a special response team rescued the two children in the car after what they described as overwhelming concern.
