A pedestrian in Hartford sustained serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle, authorities said.

The Hartford Fire Department said they responded to the accident along Wethersfield Avenue and Wyllys Street at approximately 7:25 p.m.

Fire authorities said that upon arrival, they began immediate medical care at the scene before transporting the individual to a local hospital.

According to authorities, the vehicle involved in the accident fled the scene before first responders arrived.

The Hartford Police Department is actively investigating the incident and has secured the area.
