Lansing — Thousands of Michigan government employees are facing an uncertain future this week as the Legislature nears the Oct. 1 budget deadline without a plan to fund state operations.

The standoff between the Democratic-led Senate and Republican-controlled House, which has focused on proposed spending cuts and an attempt to secure more dollars for road projects, could spur a shutdown of many state operations in nine days.
