SHREVEPORT, La. - Twenty-two years ago, U.S. Army veteran Steve Lindsley used his training to build artificial limbs for Iraqi citizens during Operation Enduring Freedom.

Working after hours, he and a friend helped more than 90 people walk again, sometimes crafting the prosthetics in Saddam Hussein’s palace oven.
