With a state operation to clear encampments and other sites used by Tulsa’s homeless having come to an end, observers say the early signs are that hundreds of the individuals affected are relocating to other parts of the community, including city parks and private property.
“The result has so far been primarily dispersal,” said Housing Solutions CEO Mark Smith, one of many city leaders who’ve been critical of Operation SAFE, which concluded last Wednesday.
“We all want to end homelessness. But there is a way to do this work that actually gets resolution — offers real pathways for folks out of homelessness. And then there’s a way that just moves people.”
