Over the past five decades McDonald's has expanded and expanded to become a giant of the food industry which serves approximately one per cent of the world's population daily - that's roughly 80 million people every 24 hours.
However, whilst the golden arches in the UK all appear to follow a standard template, positioned as a drive-thru on the outskirts of an industrial estate, or squeezed into a high street corner, across the pond in the company's birthplace they go considerably larger.
