Tasmania's opposition has formally declared it supports the proposed Macquarie Point stadium despite a scathing assessment by the state's Planning Commission, meaning the fate of the controversial project rests on a handful of independent Upper House MPs.
The Planning Commission last week recommended the roofed stadium not proceed , ruling it was too big for its inner-city site, would have " irrevocable and unacceptable" impacts on Hobart's historic cultural heritage, and the economic benefits had been overstated.
