The city of Marion received a $350,000 grant for the replacement of an essential component of upgrades to the city's sewer treatment plant.

The Marion City Council accepted the grant at the Sept. 16 meeting.

At the meeting, City Manager Woody Ayers said the city had just received notification it was approved for a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission. The grant will provide $350,000 to help pay for improvements to the city’s sewer treatment plant. The work includes the replacement of a grit classifier — part of the plant’s preliminary treatment process.
