The shortlist for Scotland’s building of the year has been revealed - with two of the four projects located in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

The north-east has put in a brilliant showing for the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award – considered Scotland’s major architecture prize.

Union Terrace Gardens in Aberdeen city centre and Gairnshiel Jubilee Bridge in Glengairn, Aberdeenshire were both shortlisted for the prestigious award, with the former described as a public realm project that transforms the landscape of the Granite City.

Gairnshiel was meanwhile heralded as a new destination and a rural infrastructure project that preserves a previously overladen historic bridge.
