Such has been the outpouring of grief over Zubeen Garg's death that even ardent fans of the pop balladeer have been left surprised. Assam saw a three-day shutdown, and a flood of people descended upon the streets as Zubeen Garg's cortege was taken to a stadium in Guwahati for fans to pay homage to the poet-singer. And going by his wish, his song Mayabini Raatir Bukut was turned into an anthem as the entire state grieved the loss of its collective treasure.
The singer died in Singapore during a sea outing and swimming and his cremation will take place on September 23. For now, his mortal remains, covered in Gamusa , have been kept at Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex in Guwahati, where thousands are streaming in to pay their last respects.
