SIMSBURY, Conn. — September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month, and ahead of Blood Cancer United’s Light the Night event on October 9th at Rentschler Field, FOX61 is highlighting stories from blood cancer survivors who are sharing their journeys from diagnosis to remission.

In the spring of 2020, Simsbury father John Slabinski was training for a half-marathon. He started not feeling so great, so naturally he went to the doctor to see what was going on and received what he described as the gut-punching news that doctors diagnosed him with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

It’s a fight many people think they have to fight alone. However, John’s wife, kids, and work family never let him have a chance to have that thought.
