Shillong, Sept 22: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) today demanded the state government to convene a special session of the Assembly for adopting a resolution opposing the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change's Office Memorandum and closing down of any proposal to mine uranium in the state of Meghalaya.

In a letter submitted to the chief minister Conrad K Sangma today, the HYC said, "Therefore, we called upon the chief minister to take necessary and urgent steps to convene the special session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly to adopt a resolution to oppose the Office Memorandum dated 8th September, 2025 issued by the MoEFCC, Impact Assessment Division, Government of India under the subjects: Fast Tracking of projects involving Mining of Critical, Strategic and Atomic
