TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - More older adults are stepping out of retirement and back into the workforce, not just to cover rising costs, but to stay active and connected to their communities.

This week is National Employ Older Workers Week , a federally recognized week highlighting the value and contributions of seniors in the workplace. According to the Pew Research Center , the number of Americans aged 65 and older in the workforce has nearly quadrupled since the mid-1980s.

Southern Arizona is seeing this shift firsthand with nearly 20 percent of employed workers 65 and older in the region working in the health care and social assistance industries, with many of them in caregiving roles.
