SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — Aaron Thomas, the former longtime North Kingstown High School basketball coach who stood trial in the spring, is scheduled to be sentenced Monday afternoon.
In May, Thomas was convicted of two counts of misdemeanor battery, but found not guilty of second-degree sexual assault and child molestation.
Thomas had been accused of having inappropriate contact with student athletes over the course of multiple decades. Former students said that while they were teenagers, Thomas would conduct body-fat measurements and other tests on them while they were alone in his office. More than 600 boys went through the program beginning in the early 1990s, and Thomas estimated that about 80% of them got completely naked for the tests.
