Summer Village of Ma-Me-O Beach residents and property owners voted overwhelmingly to remain a village on Sept. 20.

The vote was to either remain or dissolve and become a hamlet within the County of Wetaskiwin.

The question posed was if voters wanted to remain a village and become viable.

After all the ballots were in, the final tally was 256 in favour and 46 opposed.

"It was a good margin, which is excellent," said Mayor Christine Holmes in an interview, adding there was some concern about what Municipal Affairs and Cabinet would decide if the vote was close.

"The public was very clear on what they want."

Holmes said it's her understanding the vote is binding, however Cabinet could have overthrown it if there wasn't a strong result.
