Chaparral football's Israel Nieto has been voted as the Las Cruces Sun-News El Paso Children's Hospital Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 8-13.

Nieto was one of 10 football, volleyball and soccer nominees from Las Cruces, Organ Mountain, Centennial, Chaparral and Mesilla Valley Christian. Fellow nominees included Las Cruces football's Gunnar Guardiola and Daniel Amaro, Centennial football's Dailen Ramirez, Mesilla Valley Christian football's Kaden Warner, Las Cruces volleyball's Caleigh Garcia and Addison Massey, Organ Mountain boys' soccer's Nikolas Apodaca and Alejandro Torres-Valles and Las Cruces girls' soccer's Raylene Carillo.

Nieto earned 46,759 votes to claim this week's honor. He beat out Garcia, his closest competitor, at 32,263 votes.
