The Metropolitan Transportation Authority last Thursday celebrated adding another accessible subway station to its roster; this one on the M/R line at Broadway and 56th Street in Woodside.

But for MTA Chairman and CEO Janno Lieber, it also seemed in part to be a promise kept.

“I’m so proud of how we are knocking these projects out five times — five times — faster than the MTA in the old days,” Lieber said in a video of Thursday’s press conference. “We’re using every available strategy to add accessible stations to the map.”

MTA Chief Accessibility Officer Quemuel Arroyo said this marks the 153rd accessible station of the 472 on the city’s subway map. But Lieber also said that includes 37 in the last five years; 33 presently in construction; and 21 in the design or procurement phase.
