Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani said Monday he is pulling out of an ABC News town hall event slated for later this week in protest of the network’s suspension of comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show over comments the comedian made about the a ssassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Kimmel’s show was indefinitely pulled off the air last week after President Trump’s administration threatened to punish ABC over the comments.

In a press conference on Roosevelt Island, Mamdani — the front-runner in November’s mayoral election — announced he is scrapping plans to appear for a town hall-style event set to be hosted by ABC’s local affiliate this Thursday because of the Kimmel canning, which he called an act of “cowardice” on the part of the network.
