JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. —
A former Jeffersonville police officer has been sentenced for making false statements during the purchase of multiple firearms.
Todd Wilson was sentenced to 15 months in prison Monday after pleading guilty to the federal charge.
Wilson was formerly an officer with the Jeffersonville Police Department.
According to court records, Wilson lied during the purchase of nine firearms on eight separate occasions from a federally licensed dealer in Jeffersonville. The incidents took place between 2020 and 2021.
ATF regulations state that officers are allowed to buy firearms without completing ATF form 4473, which is normally required to purchase federal firearms. However, officers must submit a certification on agency letterhead signed by an authorized official to do so.
