Ten families and one alleged victim of former Huron Valley schools long-term substitute teacher Timothy Daugherty filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Detroit on Monday.

Daugherty, 61, was found guilty on six counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct and sentenced to 10-15 years in prison in July 2025 for incidents that occurred at Spring Mills Elementary in Highland Township, where he worked as a guest teacher for Huron Valley.

The charges involved 10 students between the ages of 9 and 11 and occurred in 2023 and 2024 . Daugherty had previously faced charges in 2016 for criminal sexual conduct with a child under the age of 13, which were later voluntarily dismissed by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.
