HUDSON, Iowa (KCRG) - The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office says a man is charged with First Degree Murder for a deadly shooting in Hudson last year.

Jacob Leigh Hamilton of Conrad was taken into custody Monday morning.

Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office says on July 14, 2024, officers were called to an apartment at 322 S. Washington Street for a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found Zachary Michael Drinovsky lying on the ground with several gunshot wounds. Drinovsky was still alive when he was found, but died from his injuries a short time later.

Hamilton told police at the scene that he had shot Drinovsky in self-defense after they had been in an altercation.

The case was eventually forwarded to the Iowa Attorney General’s Office which determined that Hamilton had “re-armed,
