Huntsville police have arrested a teen in connection with the fatal weekend shooting of another teen.

On Saturday, around 7:30 p.m., officers responded to the 4200 block of TeeJay Drive for a possible shooting in progress.

Upon arrival, they located a 16-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

Life-saving measures were attempted, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a recent release.

The investigation, led by Huntsville’s Major Crimes Unit, determined DaeShawn Dewayne Harkey, 18, of Huntsville, was in the home with the victim at the time of their death.

Harkey told police he believed a firearm he was handling was unloaded when it discharged, striking and killing the victim, according to the release.
