GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - After a lull for most of September, the tropics are heating up.

We have Hurricane Gabrielle which rapidly intensified Monday morning from a category 1 to a category 3 in about four hours. It passes by Bermuda Monday and then heads to the northeast, nearing the Azores on Friday as a category 1 hurricane.

There are two other tropical waves in the Atlantic we are keeping a very close eye on. The major global models play these out very differently. The GFS (American) is focused on the first disturbance which is closer to the Caribbean with the Euro focused on the second disturbance in the central Atlantic.
