CLEVELAND, Ohio — A man accused of fraud and money laundering in connection with his 2018 purchase of the Maui Sands Resort and Indoor Waterpark has died.

Inderjit Singh Grewal, 65, died on Sept. 10, according to his obituary and court filings. No cause of death was listed, but his obituary said he struggled with ALS and died surrounded by family members.

Grewal pleaded not guilty to federal charges of conspiracy, wire fraud and money laundering. U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Helmick gave prosecutors and defense attorneys until Oct. 15 to decide the next steps in the case.

Grewal’s attorneys, Martin Mohler and Nelson Rodriguez-Varela, did not return messages seeking comment.
