TANGIPAHOA PARISH (WGNO) — The Louisiana State Police has issued an emergency declaration in response to the Roseland explosion and fire at Smitty's Supply Inc. facility.

Troopers reported a chemical release, fire and explosion in Roseland on Friday, Aug. 22, resulting in a mandatory evacuation order in the area. The fire caused heavy black smoke to reportedly land on nearby homes, businesses and schools and even cause problems for farmers nearby.

The declaration took effect at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, and will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 4.
