CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - According to Illinois football Head Coach Bret Bielema, Xavier Scott, one of the teams most talented defensive backs is likely to miss the remainder of the regular season.

During his weekly media conference on Monday, Bielema said Scott will undergo surgery on Wednesday for a lower-leg injury. Scott was injured while attempting to make an interception in the Illini's September 13th game against Western Michigan . During the game, trainers and specialists could be seen observing Scott's right ankle/foot.

Scott sat out Illinois' most recent contest at Indiana , where they lost 63-10, in part dealing with other injuries in the secondary.

Bielema added there is a possibility Scott could make a return late in the season.
