Pearl his retirement on Monday, which led to his name immediately being tied with a potential segway into politics. This followed a summer of speculation that Pearl could enter the political world.

The speculation started after Tommy Tuberville, former Auburn football coach and current U.S. Senator from Alabama, announced he would not be seeking a second term and instead run to be Alabama's next governor. He announced his intentions in May, and since then speculation has arose on who would replace the former coach in Washington D.C.
