Just four years after pledging to be the first green chancellor, Rachel Reeves has said a second runway can go ahead at Gatwick Airport.

The £2.2 billion plan involves moving its emergency runway 12 metres north, allowing around 100,000 more flights a year. The Green Party has branded it a disaster.

But the government says it could create thousands of jobs, help kickstart the economy and even make holidays cheaper.
