KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Ijams Nature Center is giving advice to those who find injured animals by highlighting a one of a kind turtle.

The center shared a photo of Trinity, a female eastern box turtle who came to Ijams way back in 2005. Trinity was hit by a lawnmower, losing her front left leg. This injury makes it impossible for her to tear her food normally, so the center said it cuts her worms and produce into smaller pieces.

"If you stop by on a Sunday in the early afternoon, you might even get the chance to meet her!" Ijams said.

The center said it is home to several non-releasable animals that are there due to injury, illness or human intervention. These animals are unable to survive on their own in the wild, so Ijams cares for them — using their stories to "help Ijams educators teach
