A man was arrested Saturday in connection with a shooting that left a 4-year-old injured, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

Rey Rodriguez-Campos is facing charges of attempted manslaughter with a firearm, aggravated assault with a firearm, and possession of a firearm by convicted felon.

Deputies on Aug. 19 responded to two locations for a call about an aggravated battery: Dream Lake Elementary School at N Park Avenue and E Summit Street, and the other near Virgil Street, a short drive north.

Apopka police said the incident initially occurred in the area of Virgil Street.

OCSO said deputies were informed that two individuals exchanged gunfire near East Virgil Street, resulting in the child being struck.

The child was transported to the hospital and was stable.
