HILLSBORO, Texas (KWTX) - The Hill County Sheriff’s Office on Sept. 22 announced the passing of former sheriff V. Brent Button.
Button, who had a “long and storied history in law enforcement,” passed away on Sept. 20 at a local hospital, the sheriff’s office said.
He first served as a Hill County Deputy Sheriff from 1978 to 1980 under former Sheriff Ray Pettit.
In Oct. 1980, Button was appointed sheriff of Hill County, a position he held until his retirement on New Year’s Day 2009.
At the time of his retirement, Button was the most-tenured active sheriff in Texas.
“He led many high-profile criminal investigations throughout his career and brought many criminals to justice for those he served,” the sheriff’s office said.
