SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - After a prolonged, contentious public debate, a groundbreaking ceremony for the New Day Intake Center took place on Monday off Old Cleveland Road.
This location is just north of the South Bend International Airport. It’s a pretty remote area that’s not too close to other higher population/density areas.
The location has previously been a point of contention, but many city leaders in South Bend agreed that this location is ideal for this low-barrier intake housing project.
The goal of the New Day Intake Center is to end chronic homelessness in South Bend.
