COLCHESTER, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - A graduate of UVM's Larner College of Medicine was chosen as one of 10 candidates among almost 8,000 who applied.

Dr. Imelda Muller, 34, received her medical degree from UVM in 2017. She grew up in Copake Falls, New York, and studied as an undergraduate at Northeastern University.

Muller was also a lieutenant with the U.S. Navy where she served as an undersea medical officer.

NASA announced the members of its new class of potential astronauts at a ceremony at the Johnson Space Center in Houston on Monday, and Muller had the opportunity to discuss her experience and hopes for the future.
