One of the highlights of The Girlfriend on Prime Video is the push and pull between its two leading characters. Cherry ( Olivia Cooke ) is a working class woman who meets Daniel ( Laurie Davidson ), a somewhat pampered son of two rich and influential people, and begins dating him. When Daniel brings Cherry home to meet his parents, the vibes are instantly wrong with Laura ( Robin Wright ), Daniel's mother. It's soon revealed that Daniel and Laura are close, really close. Their relationship is undoubtedly unhealthy, especially after Laura lost her daughter at a young age, and when Cherry comes bursting into their lives, Laura becomes overprotective and then outright combative.
