LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - After a woman and her daughter were found dead in Rowan County on Sept. 19, a man is behind bars.

Joshua Cottrell is facing two counts of murder and one count of tampering with evidence in the case.

The Rowan County Coroner’s Office says police received a 911 call around 11 a.m. on Friday from a person who performed a welfare check on a coworker who did not report to work that morning.

Officials arrived at the scene and discovered the bodies of 37-year-old Kayla Blake and her daughter, 13-year-old Kennedi McWhorter.

Cottrell’s name people in Hardin County may remember.

Twenty years ago, Cottrell was found guilty in the 2003 death of another man, Richie Phillips . Phillips’ body was found stuffed in the suitcase floating in Rough River Lake.
