SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A bill was passed earlier this year by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds that banned the use of cell phones during class time. Many districts already had rules in place about phones, and as it turns out, some schools have similar policies.

"Any instructional time, kids start by having their phones up in a designated area. Students can be on their phones in passing periods, so we have three-minute passing periods, and then they can also be on their phones during the lunch hour," said Noah Phillips, the Hinton Community School High School Principal.

Once students enter classrooms, it's up to the teachers at Hinton Community School to designate a place for student cell phones, which has been a rule for many years.
